Course Descriptions

Printmaking

Create unique monoprints by simple means. Explore impression printing with objects from around the house...leaves, coins, and other assorted textured items. Learn how to produce a relief print using a variety of materials and techniques.

 

Backyard Science

A little bit of everything… biology basics, using physics, hidden hydrology, and everyday environmental impact are some prospective topics.

 

Needle Craft & Textile Art

Basic knitting, crocheting and weaving become tools for sculpting three dimensional art pieces. Simple sewing skills develop into fabric paintings. Students need not have any needlecraft expertise to participate in this class.

 

Garden Botany

Mary, Mary, quite contrary. How does your garden grow? Study the process of cultivation...from seed to bloom n’ fruit. Students may elect to tend crops onsite in the student section of the gardens and take home what they grow.

 

Papermaking

Make your own sheet paper from pulp fibers like cotton, flax and hemp. Learn to recycle old, used paper into new distinctive paper. Bridge the gap between paper and papier-mâché.

 

Mixed Media

Mix it up! Use conventional materials to create unique art. Learn about wax resist and the joys of layering color.  Assemble ideas in diorama form. Explore junk art and the benefits of recycling.

 

Studio Art & Beyond

Start by experiencing traditional media such as charcoal, oil pastel and paints. Then, discover the artists who employ these tools.

 

Ceramic Sculpture

Practice techniques of handbuilding forms in clay...pinch, coil, slab. Learn how to use various tools. Follow the process from inspiration through construction, firing and glaze.

 

The following programs are offered in single unit form as individual sessions or as a several week course, depending on the students situation and desires. I offer these topics to students ages 10 and up, individually or in small groups.
